Heatless Curls for Back to School... or Work!

This was my go-to hair style when I was in Junior High and High School! I was never a morning person, and absolutely hated waking up early just to get ready! To save time, I used my mom's old school sponge rollers. This entire process takes me less than 10 minutes total! Five minutes of my evening and 3 minutes the next morning!

 Remember these guys?!

Start off by applying curling mousse to clean hair. My hair is dry, but this would work well with slightly damp hair as well.

Next, take sections of hair and wrap your hair around the sponge. Unless you want tight curls, make sure you wrap the curls loosely! Because they're sponge, the rollers are comfortable to sleep in!

The next morning... BAM! Here's how the curls turned out!

I always preferred loose curls. I tamed down the curl by using a flexible hold hairspray, then gently pulling my hair downwards.

Here's the final look! I hope you enjoy and try this out yourself :D If you do, post a photo on my Facebook!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation first impression/ review

 Facts:
-1 fluid oz
- retail: $38.00 USD
- comes with a pump
- 18 available shades
- paraben & sulfate free

Here is my skin without makeup. I have a nice whopping zit above my brows. It's PERFECT to test foundation coverage ;)

Here is my skin with 1 layer of foundation. It did a good job concealing redness around my nose and on the zit.

Here is my skin with 2 layers of foundation. Flawless I must say! It gives a smooth demi-matte finish. It didn't feel heavy at all either. I went on about my day without setting the foundation with powder or setting spray.

I wanted to see if the Naked Skin foundation was flash friendly. The top photo is in a well lit natural light area, while the second photo is in a dim area. I find that it does have a slight white cast with flash :( Keep in mind this is with 2 layers of foundation. I'm not sure if this would happen with just one layer.

Four hours later my skin still looks the same as it did after applying the foundation! Keep in mind I have oily-combination skin. Most of the oiliness comes from my T-zone.

And here is my skin by the end of the day 9 hours later. I'm surprised my zit is still concealed! I did however notice my skin getting shiny. Although I was shiny, it didn't look or feel greasy!

Overall, I say this is a must-have foundation that is great for everyday! The price sure is expensive, but the quality is there. Watch my full first impression review below!

Makeup on my Husband for Charity!

Last Holiday Virgin Mobile reached out to us to help raise money for the "Do Whatever it Takes Campaign" for homeless youth in North America. The site is no longer there, but I found an article here if you're interested in knowing more about it. The whole point is for us to do whatever it takes to reach our charity goal. Benji and I pledged that if we raised $3,000.00 then I get to do Benji's makeup. Sure enough, after 24 straight hours live on BlogTV basically begging for donations, we raised about $3,200.00!!!

Here are some screenshot highlights of the transformation from my husband Benji to "Benjita"!

Oh he has no idea what he's gotten himself into!

Every time I asked Benji to look up, this is his legit facial expression.

 Angry bear.

Smiley bear. Sort of. I always ask my clients to smile when applying blush :)

Fierce.

His reaction when I told him to wear a wig.

Lastly, his reaction to seeing himself as "Benjita" for the first time.

Watch it all here!!!

Because it was just too hilarious, I had to do a stand alone video of just his reaction! (and from a different angle)

and because it's relevant. Here's a video of Benji's attempt to doing my makeup in the "Boyfriend/Husband does my makeup tag"

New Lashes for my Makeup Kit!

Last week I was watching one of my favorite beauty gurus MakeupByRenRen on youtube. She was sharing her makeup artist kit haul and I just about drooled when I saw her bust out the "red cherry" lashes! Where I live, human hair false lashes cost anywhere from $3 to $7 EACH and they're not as accessible. The website she got them from had lashes on average a dollar each. Obviously I went lash crazy and bought 7 dozen! Some of the styles were more expensive than others. I accidentally ordered a set with the "diamond studs" and they were one of the more expensive ones. BLEEHHHH. So be careful when ordering. ALSO keep in mind this is a wholesale website so their minimum purchase is $75. Delivery wasn't so bad either. I paid $12.30 and it got to me across country in just under a week.

Sephora's Instant Airbrush Foundation First Impression/ Review

-4.2 fluid ounces
- $28.00 at Sephora
-oil free
-paraben free
- 2 available shades: Medium & Tan

There are three adjustable settings: light, medium, and high coverage. Personally I don't think this is useful. I used the foundation on low coverage and to my surprise it sprayed out like it was high coverage! I didn't even bother testing the high coverage.

The directions say to hold the foundation 10 inches away from the face. Here's my reaction to my first spritz. It wasn't pretty and sure as heck didn't smell great either! It smelled like a can of spray paint D:

I had to spray some on my hand because the foundation at the top of the bottle didn't settle well on my skin.

And here comes round two. The application again wasn't pretty. It got all over my hair and even my dress. Next time I use this, i'll just spray the foundation on my hand first, then apply with a brush. I just wanted to show how to apply the foundation as the instructions recommend. I was however impressed by the coverage and finish.

Here I am full-faced makeup. It may not look it in the photo or video, but in person the shade did oxidize a reddish/orange tint that looked a shade or two darker than my skin tone.

And here is the before and after six hour later. The foundation stayed put! It worked so well with my oily-combination skin which I was very pleased. I'd have to say the only major downside to this foundation is the color selections. I'm hoping they'll come out with more shades soon. Otherwise, I don't see myself wearing this on myself, but possibly on my clients.

By the way, I've gotten lots of compliments on my lipstick this day! I was wearing Makeup For ever Artist Intense Rouge in #42

July 2012 Glossy Box USA

Glossy Box is a UK based company that provides beauty subscription boxes. The boxes usually consist of 4 decently sized sample beauty items, and typically one full size item. They recently just launched their services here in the USA for $21.00/month. I was sent this box for free, but happy to say I wasn't obligated or forced to promote the box :) Here is my honest review of this month's box!

Senna Cosmetics Mineral Eyeshadow Trio ($24.00)
I've tried Senna Cosmetics shadows in the past and I love their quality! Back in the day they use to have eyeshadow palettes which were one of my favorites, but somehow discontinued them. I  was pleased to see this in this month's box :) This palette is full size and is in the shade "Medallion".

Ruddy Water Blushed perfume ($22.00/24 pouches)
I actually like the idea of perfume towelettes. This in particular isn't one of my favorite scents, but It wasn't all that bad either. Its a sweet scent featuring "notes of bright red currant and rich vanilla, wrapped around subtle sweet lemon, slightly spicy ginger, and kissed with a hint of sugar". Yeahhhh, just not me.

Sebastian Color Ignite multi tone Shampoo & Conditioner ($14.95/8.4oz bottle shampoo - $16.95/6.6oz conditioner)
I have yet to try this shampoo and conditioner, however the scent of them are amazing! Smells oh so fresh and so clean. Its targeted towards colored hair, but that won't stop me from using them!

Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm ($18.50/100ml)
This is a good smelling foot cream. I mean, most foot creams smells like mint, but this one is extra minty :) I'm excited to try it tonight.

Figs & Rouge Lip, Face, & Body Balm ($6.00)
This was another full size item in the box! Its an organic multi-use balm thats suppose to keep you moisturized throughout the day. At first I thought it smelled pretty good. It has a nice floral scent to it. Then I swatched it and the fragrance was too strong and the consistency was too greasy for me! I suppose it'll work best with people who have extremely dry skin!
